A significant milestone during this period was the completion of the renovation of the historic boat landing at
Northeast Harbor. In preceding years, the shelter and railing were rebuilt, the landing patio resurfaced, and planting
beds renewed. In 2025, the work to restore the uneven, unsightly path from the Route 3 parking area to the landing
was completed.
The granite for the path steps was sourced from a former quarry located off a carriage road north of Little Long
Pond, where large granite boulders had been le behind from past extraction events. With a reverence for crasmanship, Preserve Landscape Specialist Jason Ashur used the traditional plug-and-feather method—using a
drill, steel shims, steel wedges, and a steel mallet—to split the granite into 22 steps. This work was completed along
with the repair of major damage to the ramps and floats caused by the January 2024 storms.
