In 2025, the Preserve made a long-overdue investment in the future of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller
Garden by beginning a comprehensive assessment of its sculpture, the first effort of this scope
in more than 30 years. This important work marks
the beginning of a new era of stewardship, ensuring that the garden’s significant artistic elements
receive the same level of thoughtful care as the
landscape itself.
The assessment was led by Preserve Board Director Pamela Hatchfield, a practicing conservator with decades
of experience, and included architect and architectural
conservator

of Farm & Gardens
Cassie
Banning,
and retired Greenrock
Manager
Doug Hopkins. Together, the team
documented existing conditions and
developed recommendations
for
care and intervention. Their work will
guide conservation
efforts as the garden enters its second century.
